Co-design involves design skills, tools and approaches. Learn a simple and repeatable design process to strengthen your work in any field. This interactive course is an appetiser to in-depth design study - not the main course.
📋 Course description
In this course, you’ll learn about mindsets and methods, including:
How different design approaches engage communities (e.g. HCD, UCD, co-design)
What each phase of the design process aims to achieve and what tools to use
How to move between exploration and decision-making
What common mistakes and misconceptions can undermine success
Why does this matter? Individuals and organisations without an existing design mindset and skillset often struggle to adopt co-design. Design basics are among the building blocks for aspiring facilitators of co-design. 📚 Read more in KA’s article From no design to co-design.
🧠 Who this course is for
This is an introductory course. It focuses on design practices that underpin many forms of design, including co-design. Participants may have significant experience in other fields but may not have been exposed to design approaches beyond sticky notes. The course does not go into depth on specific approaches such as digital design, health care design or co-design. Designers with formal long-term training may like to look elsewhere.
“A great balance of learning new information, group activities to apply theory and the perfect amount of breaks. As someone who loves working with examples, it was very helpful to apply learnings using one simple example throughout the different phases of a Design process. I loved how inclusive the training environment was. I am now clearer and more confident in my Design skills and clearer on my learning focus going forward.” Friederike (NZ)
